The Registered Nursing program consists of sequential courses which require five consecutive terms to complete. To extend the nursing program over more than two years, a person may take one, two or three general studies or science classes per semester prior to applying for admission to the nursing program. Continuation in and graduation from the nursing program is contingent upon the student earning a minimum grade of “C” in the courses indicated in the tables below. Classes are held in classrooms and laboratories, whereby area hospitals, community centers and nursing homes provide clinical training sites. After completing the Registered Nursing program, students will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing and are eligible to take the National Council Licensing Exam (NCLEX) for licensure as a registered nurse.♦
♦ The Ohio Board of Nursing has specific requirements regarding criminal conviction/criminal background checks that must be met prior to approval to take the NCLEX.

Nursing Program Applicants ►
In addition to complying with the College’s general admission procedures, Registered Nursing applicants
►must have successfully completed one year of high school chemistry. Applicants may take Introduction to Chemistry (CHM 110S) as an equivalent course;
►must have a satisfactory math assessment score, a grade of “B” or higher in Math Literacy (MTH 093D) or a grade of “C” or higher in Intermediate Algebra I (MTH 098D) ;
►must have satisfactory assessment scores in reading and writing and are prepared to take Composition I (ENG 121S) or successfully have completed Developmental Reading and Writing (ENG 092D) ;
►are encouraged to meet with a Health Sciences advisor to go over the admission requirements and application process; and
►must submit a Registered Nursing Program application (see below) for admission into Health Promotion of the Adult (NUR 135S) during one of the two application periods. Applications are accepted from December 15 until the application deadline of January 31 for the next fall term. Applications are accepted from June 15 until the application deadline of July 31 for the next spring term.
Criteria for selection of applicants to be admitted to the program include a combination of ►
►official high school transcript with graduation date (College Credit Plus students submit current high school transcript) or GED scores, postmarked by the application deadline for the desired term;
►college work with an overall weighted GPA of 2.5 or higher for all college transcripts. Official transcripts postmarked by the application deadline for the desired term; (NOTE Students accepted into the Nursing Program but whose Edison State GPA drops below 2.5 before the start of their program will be refused entry.)
►ACT, SAT or placement scores, postmarked by the application deadline for the desired term;
►successful completion of required developmental courses;
►demonstrated improvement in recent academic work;
►essay describing one’s personal qualities that will support success in the nursing program.
The selection committee will review all nursing applications and select applicants. All applicants will receive an email of the status of their application approximately 6-8 weeks after the application deadline. Those selected for the program are required to have a physical and medical health form completed by a physician, a current CPR for the Professional Rescuer card, Community First Aid and Safety certification, a successful background check, a successful drug screen and proof of health insurance. Applicants not selected are welcome and encouraged to reapply.
NOTE Registration in and completion of support courses listed for the nursing program does not guarantee selection into the nursing program.
