MED 233S Medical Insurance & Coding I3.00 credit hours
Study of the purpose and use of the ICD-10-CM classification system. Topics include coding conventions, coding principles, and CMS official coding guidelines (outpatient). Students will be required to assign ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes to diagnosis/procedure statements, case abstracts, and patient records. Use of the ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding manuals and a computerized encoder is incorporated; outpatient and physician office reimbursement systems are discussed. An introduction to HCPC-Level II coding will also be discussed. Students will complete CMS-1500 claims for the outpatient and physician office. Prerequisite: ALH 151S . Prerequisite or Co-requisite: BIO 124S . Lab Fee: $48 (Additional fees will apply for flex and webflex sections.) FALL | SPRING | SUMMER
