Electric Vehicle Systems Short-Term Technical Certificate

The Electric Vehicle Systems Short-Term Technical Certificate provides students with an understanding of the types of electric and hybrid vehicles and the technologies that are used in those vehicles. The introductory course provides background on the science and technology used in electric vehicles. Specific courses in storage technologies and drive systems provide hands-on labs where students explore and evaluate battery technologies and the drive systems that power today’s electric vehicles. Short-Term Technical Certificates consist of three to seven courses that can be completed in a year or less. To receive a Certificate of Completion, students must complete the required courses with a cumulative GPA of “C” or better and complete an application for certificate.
NOTE  Federal Financial Aid is not available for Short-Term Technical Certificate programs, but scholarship assistance may be available.
NOTE  Students pursuing a Short-Term Technical Certificate may need to satisfy course prerequisites which may include placement testing. 
  

Program Outcomes ►
The student will
articulate the development and evolution of hybrid and electric vehicle technologies;
identify the types of electric and hybrid vehicles, the energy storage and drive systems used in those vehicles, and the principles of the mechanics of energy being applied;
explain the advantages and disadvantages of the various types of energy storage and drive systems in electric vehicles; and
demonstrate basic troubleshooting skills in the manufacture and maintenance of electric vehicles.
