Advanced Manufacturing Systems Short-Term Technical Certificate

The Advanced Manufacturing Systems Short-Term Technical Certificate provides students with the skills to enter a new job field or advance in their current one. Short-Term Technical Certificates consist of three to seven courses that can be completed in a year or less. To receive a Certificate of Completion, students must complete required courses with a cumulative GPA of “C” or better and complete an application for certificate.
NOTE  Federal Financial Aid is not available for Short-Term Technical Certificate programs, but scholarship assistance may be available.
NOTE  Students pursuing a Short-Term Technical Certificate may need to satisfy course prerequisites which may include placement testing.

Program Outcomes ►
The student will

  1. demonstrate basic competence in the various machining processes including milling, turning, grinding, and more;
  2. demonstrate basic competence in welding and casting processes;
  3. demonstrate application of accepted industry safety practices;
  4. explain the mechanical and physical properties of various engineering materials;
  5. apply CNC programming to milling and turning;
  6. explain cost considerations inherent in the planning, estimating and controlling of a manufacturing project;
  7. manufacture parts in accordance with specified design parameters;
  8. explain the ethical considerations involved in manufacturing a product per industry standards;
  9. proper use of use of engineering measuring instruments;
  10. introduction to various types of engineering drawings, recognition of electrical symbols, mechanical symbols, and welding symbols is developed; skill in freehand drawing of 3-dimensional objects is developed; and
  11. introduction to the basics of computer-aided drafting using computer and textbook-based materials.
