Mechanical Design | A.A.S. | Part-Time
|
|
The Mechanical Design program provides students with the basic mathematical, scientific and engineering foundations necessary to mechanically design products for industrial, commercial and personal applications. Advanced courses include 3D solid modeling, engineering materials, applied engineering mechanics and strength of materials and machine design. The program culminates in a project in which students demonstrate the totality of their knowledge by designing a product from its original concept, through all the required design considerations and techniques, to a final design complete with engineering design analyses and drawings.
Some possible careers include ►
drafters/designers, mechanical design technicians, tool/fixture designers, sales/customer service technicians and applications engineers
Program Outcomes ►
The student will
►demonstrate basic competence in developing 2D and 3D engineering drawings/models;
►demonstrate basic competence in engineering design and analysis using applications of mathematics, physics and engineering mechanics;
►demonstrate familiarity with basic manufacturing processes;
►explain the mechanical and physical properties of various engineering materials;
►explain cost considerations inherent in the planning, estimating, and controlling of a design project;
►design parts/products in accordance with specified design parameters, utilizing problem-solving skills as required;
►explain the ethical considerations involved in the design of a product per industry standards;
►demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills; and
