SSV 113S Introduction to Social Welfare3.00 credit hours
Introduction to the historical development of the American Social Welfare System. Cultural conditions, political perspectives, foundational values/ ideologies, and ethical principles will be reviewed as they relate to social problem identification, policy development, and service provision/implementation. Student will be introduced to the local, state and federal structures that impact policy formation, program administration, and economic support. Issues of human diversity, discrimination, social justice, inequality, and oppression will be discussed as related to contemporary social welfare policy, programs, and service delivery.
