Career Outlook   

Transfer Agreements  

The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) program provides students with the technical knowledge and skills to size, repair, install, service and maintain the operating condition of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. This program includes instruction in machine reliability and diagnostic techniques; the use of testing equipment; and the principles of mechanics, electricity and electronics as they relate to the repair of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.♦ NOTE All HVA courses are held at the Upper Valley Career Center (UVCC) Adult Division in conjunction with their HVAC-R eight-month program. Students who wish to pursue this associate degree program should first complete the HVAC program at UVCC and credit will be articulated.

Some possible careers include ►
HVAC installer, HVAC start-up technician, HVAC mechanic and HVAC service technician

Program Outcomes ►
The student will

  1. demonstrate proficiency in the service and repair of HVAC/R equipment;
  2. demonstrate proficiency and a working knowledge of electrical components, mechanical components, sheet metal fabrication, piping and tubing;
  3. develop knowledge of HVAC/R systems;
  4. demonstrate problem-solving skills, reliability analysis and the application of troubleshooting techniques to HVAC/R equipment;
  5. demonstrate basic competence in HVAC/R system analysis and sizing;
  6. develop familiarity with additional job-critical skills, including safety awareness and ethics;
  7. demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills; and
  8. apply effective interpersonal and teamwork skills.
