The Advanced Manufacturing Systems program prepares students for milling and turning operations, CNC programming, welding, casting, metal-forming, materials technology and heat treating processes. Advanced courses include lean systems, project management, manufacturing automation and manufacturing costs and controls. This program culminates in a project in which students demonstrate the totality of their knowledge by manufacturing a product from its original paper design, through all the required processes, to a final part or assembly of parts.
Some possible careers include ►
manufacturing engineering technicians, CNC programmers, materials science technicians, machine setup technicians, process specialists, quality technicians and industrial mechanics
Program Outcomes ►
The student will
►demonstrate basic competence in the various machining processes including milling, turning, grinding and more;
►demonstrate basic competence in welding, casting and other metal-forming processes;
►demonstrate application of accepted industry safety practices;
►explain the mechanical and physical properties of various engineering materials;
►apply CNC programming to milling and turning;
►explain cost considerations inherent in the planning, estimating and controlling of a manufacturing project;
►demonstrate problem-solving skills and troubleshooting techniques to solving manufacturing problems;
