Electronics Engineering Technology, Electro-Mechanical Option, A.A.S.
The Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology option prepares students for design, interface, installation, and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical systems. The program begins with foundational electrical and mechanical design classes. The program provides a great deal of flexibility, allowing the student to choose a variety of electrical, mechanical, and other related technical courses. Students then can choose additional electrical and mechanical classes to specialize in areas such as automation, electronics, machine design or 3D modeling. Students can further choose related electives to either deepen their specialization, or choose additional topic areas such as manufacturing; heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration; or alternative energy systems. Students will integrate electronics and electrical controls with mechanical systems and explore alternative trade-offs in the process of problem-solving and troubleshooting.
Graduates of this program can function as electro-mechanical technicians, industrial controls technicians and engineers, electronics installation and repair specialists, automation specialists, maintenance systems technicians, PLC programmers, robotics technicians, applications engineers, mechanical designers, and HVAC/R technicians. More and more the complex systems that technicians work on combine mechanical and electrical systems, requiring a technician that understands both.
The student will:
- Demonstrate proficiency with electrical components and systems;
- Demonstrate proficiency with mechanical components and systems;
- Demonstrate basic competence in mechanical engineering design and analysis using applications of mathematics and engineering mechanics;
- Demonstrate basic competence in electrical engineering design and analysis using applications of mathematics and circuit analysis;
- Demonstrate problem solving skills and troubleshooting techniques;
- Demonstrate written and oral communication skills;
- Demonstrate application of accepted industry safety practices;
- Explain ethical considerations involved in electrical and mechanical engineering;
- Apply effective interpersonal and teamwork skills.
