BIO 245S Basic Biology Concepts

4.00 credit hours

Concepts and applications of biology including growth needs of plants, dicot and monocot anatomy, plant growth and development, tree identification and measurement, predator/prey interactions, population dynamics, food webs, water and soil cycles, life cycles, ecosystems, cell structure, cell organelle functions, genetics and human pedigrees, DNA structure, protein synthesis, and basic human biology. Uses activity/inquiry based learning and mathematics to develop the science process skills in elementary and middle school education majors. Class meets six hours per week including laboratory time (2 hours lecture/ 4 hours lab). Prerequisite: MTH 126S  and CHM 245S  or equivalent. Co-requisite: MTH 127S . Lab Fee: $35
